Xiaomi is holding a launch event on tomorrow (March 14), where it is widely expected to launch the Redmi 5. The smartphone has been available in home country China for quite sometime now, and is now expected to make its debut in the Indian market. Here are all the details about the launch event tomorrow.
Xiaomi’s event kicks off tomorrow at 3:00PM, and it will be live streaming the event online. You will be able to watch the stream by heading over to http://event.mi.com/in/compactpowerhouse?4567. The company has diligently been teasing the device, latest of which was the smartphone’s exclusive availability on Amazon India. Just a day before that, the company also teased the purported Redmi 5 as the ‘Compact Powerhouse’.
The Redmi 5 in China comes in three storage variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM priced at RMB 799 (Rs 7,800 approximately), 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM priced at RMB 899 (Rs 8,800 approximately), and 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM priced at RMB 1,099 (approximately Rs 11,000). It is unclear if the company will launch all the three variants together in India as well.
As for other specifications, the smartphone is equipped with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core SoC. There’s an option to expand the storage via microSD card.
For optics, the Redmi 5 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery. On the software front, the Redmi 5 runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with MIUI 9 layered atop. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2, hybrid dual SIM/microSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a microUSB port, and 3.5mm headphone jack.
