Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Wednesday launched “Redmi 5” in India with 18:9 display for Rs 7,999 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.
The Redmi 5 has a 7.7mm metal body, which makes it the slimmest smartphone in the Redmi series, and has a 5.7-inch screen for an immersive viewing experience, the company said in a statement. The device will be available in a weekly sale starting March 20 across Mi.com, Amazon India, and Mi Home stores. In addition to the 16GB variant, Xiaomi has also launched a 32GB variant priced at Rs 8,999, and a 64GB variant priced at Rs 10,999.
“Our partner @reliancejio is offering an amazing offer for all #Redmi5 users: INR 2,200 instant cashback + 100 GB of additional data!,” tweeted Manu Kumar Jain, Global Vice President and Managing Director, Xiaomi India.
“#Redmi5 is an overall upgrade to Redmi 4 and a worthy successor,” Jain added.
The smartphone will also be made available across all Xiaomi’s offline partners in the coming weeks, the company said in a statement. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core processor with 14nm “FINFET” technology. There is a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front camera with LED selfie-light. A 3,300mAh battery fuels the device.
