Xiaomi added the a new smartphone to its budget portfolio in India. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 was first launched in China, and today marks its debut here. With prices starting at Rs 7,999 for the base model, the Redmi 5 seeks to counter the likes of the Moto G5s in the affordable, feature-rich segment. Here’s a look at the prices, availability, and launch day offers on the Xiaomi Redmi 5.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 prices, availability

The Redmi 5 has been launched today in three variants. The 2GB RAM+16GB internal storage model is priced at Rs 7,999. The 3GB +32GB internal storage model will cost Rs 8,999, while the 4GB RAM+64GB internal storage model will cost Rs 10,999.

The Redmi 5 will be available for purchase from March 20, 2018, across mi.com, Amazon India, and Mi Home offline stores. It will be made available on other partner offline stores at a later stage. Color choices include black, gold, lake blue, and rose gold.

If you purchase the Redmi 5 through mi.com or Amazon India, you will be eligible for a five percent discount when using SBI credit card during check out. You will be also eligible for 90 percent discount on Kindle e-books.

In addition to that, Xiaomi partner Reliance Jio is offering the Jio instant cashback offer where you will be able to avail Rs 2,200 as cashback vouchers, along with 100GB of data on recharging with specific plans.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 specifications, features

The Redmi 5 boasts a metal unibody design. It flaunts a 5.7-inch HD+ LCD display with a resolution of 1440×720 pixels, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is an octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset SoC.

For optics, there’s a 12-megapixel sensor with phase detection auto-focus, and support for 1080p video recording @30fps. Up front, there’s a 5-megapixel camera which also comes with supports 1080p video recording. The smartphone is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery. On the software front, the Redmi 5 runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with MIUI 9 layered above. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, 4G with VoLTE calling, and rear fingerprint sensor.
