Xiaomi’s new Redmi 5 smartphone today went on sale for the first time. As has become the norm, stocks of the smartphone ran out in a matter of minutes. This, despite the company having around 400,000 units available. In case you missed out today, the date of the second sale has already been revealed.
A quick look on Amazon India shows that the Redmi 5 smartphone will be going on sale for the second time on March 27. Just like today, the sale will kick off at 12:00PM, and chances are it will again be over in a matter of minutes. The smartphone will also be available on mi.com, as well as, Xiaomi’s offline Mi Home stores. There is currently no word on how many units will be available in the second sale. But in a post on Facebook, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain wrote, “I assure you that we’re doing everything possible to increase supplies, and ensure that you get a great buying experience.”

For a quick recap, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be available in three variants – 2GB RAM model priced at Rs 7,999, 3GB RAM model priced at Rs 8,999, and 4GB RAM model priced at Rs 10,999. Buyers will be able to choose from gold, lake blue, black and rose gold colors.
As far as specifications are concerned, the Redmi 5 flaunts a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 SoC, and there are two storage options – 16GB and 32GB.
For photography, the Redmi 5 features a 12-megapixel rear camera with PDAF and 1080p video recording support, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The device is backed by a 3,300mAh battery, and comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G LTE with VoLTE. On the software front, the device runs MIUI 9-based Android 7.0 Nougat.
