Xiaomi is set to hold a product launch on March 14, where it is expected to introduce the Redmi 5 smartphone. The smartphone has been available in home country China, and in the coming days will mark its India debut. After the company teased the Redmi 5 as a ‘compact powerhouse’, information about the smartphone’s availability on Amazon India has now been revealed.
Amazon India has set up a new webpage mentioning the Redmi 5 as exclusive to the platform and listed as ‘coming soon’. It is worth mentioning that all Xiaomi products are alternatively also available on mi.com and offline Mi Home stores.
On Xiaomi’s official website, the launch event is scheduled for March 14, 3:00 PM. It is expected that the smartphone will also be listed or be up for pre-booking around the same time.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 specifications
The Redmi 5 is already available in China since last year. It comes in three storage variants, 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM model which is priced at RMB 799 (Rs 7,800 approximately), 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM model which is priced at RMB 899 (Rs 8,800 approximately) and 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM model which costs RMB 1,099 (approximately Rs 11,000). It is unclear if the company will launch all the three variants together in India.
As for other specifications, the smartphone is equipped with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core SoC. There’s an option to expand the storage via microSD card.
For optics, the Redmi 5 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery. On the software front, the Redmi 5 runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with MIUI 9 layered atop. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2, hybrid dual SIM/microSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a microUSB port, and 3.5mm headphone jack.
