The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is available on Amazon India. Yes you heard it right, the much-awaited smartphone is listed on the e-commerce site with pricing et al, even though Xiaomi hasn’t officially launched it in the country. There are two variants listed — 16GB storage with 2GB RAM priced at Rs 21,491, and 64GB storage with 4GB RAM priced at Rs 27,055. But here’s why you shouldn’t buy either of them.

The primary reason why you shouldn’t buy the Redmi Note 4 now from Amazon India is simply because Xiaomi hasn’t really launched the smartphone yet. The smartphones listed on the e-commerce site is being sold by an unknown seller going by the name ‘Generic (Unbranded)’. If that name wasn’t a warning enough, a quick look at the specifications shows that the variants are powered by MediaTek processors. With Xiaomi embroiled in a patent battle with Ericsson, the Court has barred the Chinese company from selling MediaTek-powered devices in India. In other words, these devices have been imported from China.

In comparison, the smartphone is available in China for RMB 899 (approximately Rs 9,000), and RMB 1,199 (Rs 12,000 approximately) respectively. If you were to buy one of these devices, you are unlikely to receive after-sales support or warranty from Xiaomi. BGR India has reached out to Xiaomi regarding these listings on Amazon India.

Though the invite didn’t reveal a lot apart from the fact that it will be a Redmi smartphone, the company is widely expected to launch the much-awaited Redmi Note 4 at the event. As the name suggests, the upcoming smartphone is the successor to the highly popular Redmi Note 3.
