Xiaomi is set to launch the Mi A2, its second smartphone based on Android One, in India today. The smartphone is set to launch at around 4:00PM in the national capital, and is being anticipated to be priced competitively. However, before the launch of Mi A2, Xiaomi is putting up its premium mid-range smartphone, the Redmi Note 5 Pro, on sale.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro will be available for purchase today at 12:00PM from both Flipkart as well as Xiaomi’s own mi.com. Xiaomi recently announced that it has sold over 5 million units of Redmi Note 5 in India, but the company has not shared any sales number for the Redmi Note 5 Pro. It says the smartphone has emerged as the most sought after device in the sub-Rs 20,000 price segment since its launch in March.
To recall, the Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched as a premium version of Redmi Note 5 in March. While it is not literally the replacement to Redmi Note 4, it does come as a successor to last year’s best-selling smartphone. When compared to Redmi Note 5, the Pro variant offers improved cameras and faster processor.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Specifications
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro features a modern design with aluminum unibody casing and thinner bezels surrounding the display. The smartphone is equipped with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display that supports a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels, and taller 18:9 aspect ratio. Powering the device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB expandable storage.
The biggest selling point of Redmi Note 5 Pro so far has been its Snapdragon 636, the first chipset in the mid-range segment to get custom Kryo cores for better performance, and improved battery life. The Redmi Note 5 Pro also features dual rear camera setup combining a 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel image sensors. At the front, it gets a 20-megapixel selfie shooter with dedicated LED flash and support for face unlock.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro runs Android Oreo with MIUI on top of it, and will soon be updated to MIUI 10. It is backed by a 4,000mAh battery and has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Despite updated specifications and features, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has faced stiff competition from devices like the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Oppo Realme 1.
