Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has started to receive the new MIUI 9.5 Global ROM build in India, and will start to reach all users over the next few days via OTA. The MIUI 9.5 is built on top of Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat. The update brings a host of new features, which includes changes like a revamped notifications center, an optimized browser kernel, quick search options, and bug fixes.

By end of this week, all Redmi Note 5 users in India are expected to receive the update. While most users will be notified of an OTA update, for the ones who don’t, can also manually run an update on their smartphones. To do that, head to Settings > About > System Updates, and download and install the update.

According to the changelog shared on the MIUI thread, the new version of the update brings the option to transfer apps with or without app data using Mi Mover, new sound recording options for screen recorder, in-line replies, one-finger gesture to expand notifications, and bundled notifications, among others.

Additionally, the update also improves the TalkBack in the notification shade, and the Bluetooth switch responsiveness. It also optimizes second confirmation for turning on Demo mode.

Plus, after the update, users can now add photos to favorites in the Gallery. The update has optimized local storage to free up space. Very similar to iOS, the update also allows users to now select custom covers for albums with people. The update also fixes an issue in the gallery, where users couldn’t crop scrolling screenshots.

Last week, Xiaomi began rolling out the MIUI 9.5 Global stable ROM for the Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm Snapdragon variant, Redmi 4A, and Redmi Mi Max, among others.

Other models like Redmi Note 5A Prime/Redmi Y1, Redmi Note 5A/Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5, Mi Max 2, Mi 5, Redmi 4X, Mi 6 and Mi MIX 2 are expected to get the update in early April.
