Over the past few weeks, the rumor mill has abuzz about Xiaomi’s upcoming budget smartphone, the Redmi S2. Just yesterday, the smartphone was spotted in a Mi Store in Czech Republic. Now, Xiaomi has released a teaser on Weibo which states that the smartphone will be launched on May 10 in China.
The teaser has an image of a building belonging to the Suning stadium, and shows a parachute highlighting the ‘S’ letter, hinting that it could be the Redmi S2 launch. Based on the leaks that we have come across so far, the Redmi S2 is expected to come with a design similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro and the recently launched Mi 6X. The alleged Redmi S2 has also cleared China’s 3C and TENAA certification, revealing its key specifications and features.

Based on what we know so far, the Redmi S2 will flaunt a 5.99-inch HD+ display of 1440×720 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC is expected, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage. An option for further expansion using a microSD card, is also likely to be in tow. Rumors also hints about other variants with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.

In terms of optics, a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor is expected. The depth sensor will help you add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos. For selfies and video calling, a 16-megapixel front camera is expected. To keep things ticking the Redmi S2 could feature a 3,080mAh battery.
Just like the recently launched Xiaomi devices, the Redmi S2 is also expected to run on Android Oreo OS with MIUI 9.5 interface on top, and gesture control support. As of now, there is no word on the price and availability of the smartphone.
