After high-resolution images and specifications of the alleged Redmi S2 leaked last week, the smartphone was recently spotted in an official Mi Store in Czech Republic. Just yesterday, we also came across a Xiaomi teaser featuring multi-colored letter ‘S’ with reports hinting at Surge S2 SoC announcement. However, now that the Redmi S2 has popped up, the announcement could very well be related to the smartphone.
Based on the leaked photo (via GSMArena), the specifications of the Redmi S2 include a 5.99-inch HD+ display of 1440×720 pixels resolution. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage, with an option to expand it further using a microSD card. Other variants with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage will also be on offer.
In the photography department, the smartphone features a dual camera setup at the back, with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor. The setup will help you capture photos with DSLR-like bokeh effects. With a 16-megapixel front camera, the smartphone will be armed with a 3,080mAh battery.
Watch: Gesture navigation on Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
On the software front, it will run Android Oreo with MIUI 9.5 interface on top. Being a smartphone with full screen display, the MIUI 9.5 interface will also include for iPhone X-like gesture support to navigate through the UI.
There is no word on the price, launch date and availability, but reports hint that the smartphone is targeted towards emerging markets such as India.
