Xiaomi Redmi Y2 software update brings bug fix and security enhancements

Xiaomi Redmi Y2, the new selfie-centric smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker, is receiving a new software update in India. The smartphone was launched in India early this month, and it is getting the new MIUI 9.5 software update based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

While the update does not bring the new MIUI 10, it bumps the software to MIUI version number 9.5.14. The update does not bring a lot of new features, and instead fixes some of the bugs and improves the security of the smartphone. The changelog however does not detail all the bugs that are being squashed as part of this software update.

If you own a Redmi Y2 then it is recommended to install this update as soon as you get it. In case you don’t receive the notification for over-the-air update, then it is recommended to check for the same manually by heading to Settings and then System Updates. Xiaomi has begun the rollout of MIUI 10 for select models, and Redmi Y2 is expected to get the update as well.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Specifications and Price

The Redmi Y2 features a 5.99-inch display with HD+ resolution of 1440×720 pixels, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Powering the smartphone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC similar to one found on Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi is offering the Redmi Y2 with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB internal storage.

The smartphone features a design similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro, and even has a vertically stacked dual rear camera setup. The Redmi Y2 is equipped with dual camera setup of 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. There is a 16-megapixel selfie camera with AI beautification mode, support for HDR and LED flash. It also supports face unlock and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

On the connectivity front, Xiaomi Redmi Y2 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB port, and 4G LTE. The smartphone is supported by a 3,080mAh battery, and will be available in grey, gold and rose gold colors. It is available at a starting price of Rs 9,999 for the base model which offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. There is also a variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage retailing at Rs 12,999.
