In November 2017, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A aka “Desh ka smartphone” with starting price of Rs 5,999. The company also mentioned that for the first 5 million customers, the smartphone will be offered at a special price of R 4,999. On its first sale, which was held on December 7, the smartphone went out of stock within minutes. Apparently, the trend remained similar in all the consecutive sales, considering Xiaomi Global VP Manu Kumar Jain just announced that the company managed to sell over a million units of the smartphone in just one month.

The smartphone comes in two variants, a 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant priced at Rs 5,999, and a 3GB RAM and 32GB storage model priced at Rs 6,999. The device is sold only on Flipkart and mi.com, as well as at all of Xiaomi’s offline stores and partners.
