Xiaomi is set to launch the Mi MIX 2S, an updated version of its flagship bezel-less Mi MIX 2 on March 27. Ahead of the official announcement, Xiaomi has been teasing the device on China’s micro-blogging platform Weibo for the past few days.
The Chinese smartphone maker has already confirmed that the Mi MIX 2S will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and has even teased the Antutu score of the device. Now, the company is making some shout about the camera with vague text along with images of clapping hands. It needs to be noted that the company used a similar hand-based teaser for the Snapdragon 845 teaser as well. There is a possibility that both the teasers might be related.
The new teaser posted by the company shows that Mi MIX 2S’ camera will support AI features but the clapping picture could relate to speed of the camera. The Mi MIX 2S might be able to capture 4K video at 60 fps or record 720p slow-motion videos at 480fps. Since clapping is an action, Xiaomi might also be teasing autofocus speed of the camera on upcoming Mi MIX 2S.
According to the leaked ROM of the smartphone, the Mi MIX 2S is expected to use Sony’s new IMX363 image sensor. That sensor is also found in the ZenFone 5Z which has a 12-megapixel shooter with 1.4 micron pixels and 1/2.55″ size sensor. One of the thing that Xiaomi must implement on its camera is the support for dual pixel autofocus which is available on flagship devices like Pixel 2 and Galaxy S9, but not supported by IMX 363 image sensor.
The leaked reports indicate the Mi MIX 2S will be mostly identical to Mi MIX 2 with the front camera expected to be moved to the top right corner for a notch-like appearance. The smartphone is said to feature a 5.99-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and support for 18:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to offer 8GB RAM as standard and pack a 3,400mAh battery.
Xiaomi is known for being bold and innovative with the design of Mi MIX series, developed in collaboration with designer Philippe Starck. The smartphone is expected to be priced around RMB 400 (around Rs 40,000) when it goes on sale.
