Xiaomi has really been cashing in on the growing awareness about air pollution, which has become a serious issue in several countries including China and India. After launching air masks and air purifiers, the company is now reportedly planning to work on a portable air purifier for cars.

This all started when a photo of a man traveling in a train, using the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier emerged on MIJIA’s website. The image generated lots of response, considering the air purifier is too bulky to be carried all around. Eventually Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun also weighed in, suggesting that the company will work on a portable air purifier which can be used while in transit.

To make it official, a recent post on the official Mijia Weibo page announced that the air purifier may be coming soon. According to Gizmochina, recently a Xiaomi executive also revealed that the portable car air purifier would be launched as early as next week. The publication reported another Xiaomi official suggesting the possibility of the Mi portale Air purifier to come with a large CADR ratio (clean air output ratio).

Currently, Xiaomi offers three versions of its Air purifier, which is the Xiaomi Air Purifier, Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 and Xiaomi Air Purifier Pro, but they are all meant for indoor use and can not really be replaced for a portable one.

Xiaomi launched its Mi Air Purifier 2 in the Indian market in September this year, which was also the first smart home appliance from Xiaomi coming to India. The Mi Air Purifier 2 boasts a CADR of 310m3/h. It features a single motor, dual mixed booster fans and three-layer filter. Besides being up to 58 percent more power efficient than the Mi Air Purifier, the new system is also up to 11 percent quieter. Xiaomi boasts that its air purifier is capable of removing up to 99.7 percent of the PM2.5 particulates in less than an hour. The product was priced at Rs 9,999. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 Review: Let’s clear the air

Besides that, Xiaomi launched the Mi Air Purifier Pro last month in China, which hasn’t yet made to the Indian market. The new Pro model of the Mi Air Purifier series features an OLED display and comes with a newly designed air flow path and pressure system. This display shows real-time air quality using the PM2.5 concentration scale for particulate matter along with displaying temperature and humidity. The display further comes with an LED ring around it which changes color from green to red based on the air quality of the surroundings. Another Pro feature that the device boasts is the auto-brightness feature which adjusts itself according to the time of the day.
