Yahoo has shared its 2017 Year in Review which shows results based on users’ daily search habits like what they read, recommend and share most on Yahoo. In India, conversations around politics, cricket, and entertainment were the most talked about this year. BJP’s Amit Shah who played a major role in the party’s electoral wins in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur has been named ‘Personality of the Year 2017’. The most searched personality in India was Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by Honeypreet Insan, Kapil Sharma, Virat Kohli and Donald Trump. Sunny Leone bagged the title for ‘Yahoo India’s Most Searched Female Celebrity’. At the same time, the late Vinod Khanna became the ‘Most Searched Male Celebrity’.
Yahoo’s Political Newsmakers list had some new entries joining Prime Minister Modi and Arun Jaitley. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Nirmala Sitharaman were new joinees in the list. President Ram Nath Kovind, Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah and Sushma Swaraj were also among the most prominent politicians in the list. While Modi, Arvind Kejriwal, and Sasikala remained the most searched politicians in 2017, they couldn’t beat US President Donald Trump who has had a very eventful year so far.
In terms of ‘Most Searched Newsy terms of 2017’, Aadhaar took the number one spot, which is not surprising. Following this was Goods and Services Tax (GST) which was also the ‘Top Business Story That Shook the Nation’. Virat Kohli came back to the top spot for ‘India’s Most Searched Sportspeople’. But there were new faces like Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur who were quite the talk in Indian sports this year.
Seeing trends of this year, Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor were the best dressed male and female celebrities. The list for favorite stylish Indians includes names like Modi, Mithali Raj, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, among others.
