Micromax‘s subsidiary YU is planning to launch what it calls to be the most powerful smartphone ever. The smartphone, which will be called Yutopia, is codenamed ‘Project Achilles’ internally.

“The brief was to manufacture the world’s most powerful smartphone in India,” one of the sources working on the project told BGR India. The result is the YU Yutopia, which will be made in India. The smartphone is likely to be launched in time for Diwali, which means we could see its launch happening sometime next month.

The Yutopia could be the YU 5050, which was leaked via benchmark results earlier this month ahead of the YU Yunique launch. YU founder, Rahul Sharma, tweeted about the phone last week, calling it the real beast.

We don’t have clarity on YU Yutopia specifications, but leaked benchmark results suggest it would run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The results also indicated a 5.2-inch display, 21-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing camera. There has been some confusion whether there will be two different variants — one with 3GB of RAM along with a 1080p display, and another with 4GB of RAM and a 2K display.

The source won’t reveal the specifications but just hinted that it would be the real flagship killer, taking a jab at the OnePlus 2. “This would be a no-compromise smartphone, with the best specifications and the highest benchmark rating,” the source says.

So far, YU has only launched sub-Rs 10,000 smartphones starting with the Yureka, followed by Yuphoria, Yureka Plus and most recently Yunique. The Yutopia would be the first flagship smartphone from the Micromax offshoot brand. With a claim like being the most powerful phone in the world, it remains to be seen whether YU can take on not just OnePlus and Xiaomi but even the likes of Samsung and HTC in the high-end smartphone space.
