Amazon Echo Spot, the second smart speaker from the e-commerce giant with a dedicated display, is now available in India. The Echo Spot is the fourth smart speaker with Alexa digital assistant to be available in India. The Echo Spot is priced at Rs 12,999 but it is available at Rs 10,499, a limited period discount of Rs 2,500.

In addition to that discount, Amazon is also offering additional discount of Rs 1,000 for those purchasing two models at once. The Echo Spot buyers can also avail 10 percent cashback on purchasing the smart speaker with ICICI Bank cards. The Echo Spot comes just as Google tries to establish its place in the segment with the launch of its own Google Assistant-enabled Google Home and Google Home Mini.

Voice is widely seen as the future of interaction and the replacement to touch seen on most devices now. Amazon is currently spearheading that transition with its Alexa-enabled Echo speakers and with Echo Spot, it wants smart speaker users to gain much more than just speak with Alexa. Here are key things to know about Amazon Echo Spot:

  • The Echo Spot is the fourth addition to the Echo family in Amazon's portfolio in India. The Echo Spot slots right in between the regular Echo and Echo Plus in terms of price but it is unique for the being the first to sport a display in the country. While Echo users can mainly talk with other Echo devices, they can also watch content on the Echo Spot.

  • The central experience of Echo Spot is powered by a 2.5-inch circular display that will serve as the central information system. With Echo Spot, Amazon Echo users can watch videos from services like Amazon Prime Video and even watch trailers of the newest movies running in theaters near you.

  • Since the design is circular, the Echo Spot looks more like a table clock and primarily one that can be set on your nightstand. But it also comes with a camera which can be used to make video calls with other Alexa or Echo users.

  • However, if you find that camera to be creepy or don't wish to access the voice feature of Alexa then the Echo Spot comes with a nifty switch at the top that electronically disengages the camera and far-field microphones. The Echo Spot is a cute device but it does the primary function of being a speaker and Alexa-powered digital assistant.

  • The Echo Spot features a 1.4-inch speaker but also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack and Bluetooth to connect with external speakers. It weighs just 419 grams and is compatible with smart home devices from brands like Nest, Ring, Philips and Syska.
