Drones are getting increasingly popular across the world. While there have been skepticism about the drones, especially over the possible misuse such as spying or as a weapon, there have also been some innovative use cases like Amazon‘s conceptual drone-based delivery system, called the Amazon Air Prime. Going forward we are likely to see more productive use cases of drones. One more area where drones can be very effective is taking photos with high aesthetics appeal.
Dronestagram is a photo-sharing platform for drone-lovers, and has announced the winners of its International Drone Photography Contest 2016. The contest first began three years ago, and since then it has been taking place every year. Out of all the pictures sent, National Geographic picked up three best photographs in three different categories.
When you look at these pictures you’d realize how underrated drone photography is. These photographs reflect so much skill one needs. It is not just flying the drone and taking a picture from up top, but the understanding that goes into floating your drone perfectly above a spot, and then composing a perfect shot while your drone is still hovering in the air! People really need to give them more credit.
The nine photographs in the gallery feature the top three winners from three categories — Nature Wildlife, Sports Adventure, and Travel. People across 28 countries participated in the contest and a total of 5900 entries were sent in.
This amazing Game of Thrones-like image won the first place in the Nature-Wildlife category. It was clicked by Michael Bernholdt using the Phantom 3 drone. It shows Demark’s Kalbyris Forest.
This beautiful shot of a herd of sheeps won the second place in the category of Nature-Wildlife. It has been shot by Szabolcs Ignacz somewhere in Romania.
Clicked by Jonathan Payet, this image was taken above the Piton de la Fournaise volcano on Réunion island. It won the third position in the Nature-Wildlife category.
This shot will surely make your heart skip a beat. Clicked by Max Seigal at Moab, Utah, this photograph won the first place in the Sports Adventure category.
This refreshing image of swimmers competing competition in Cúcuta, Colombia, bagged the second prize in the Sport Adventure category. It was clicked by Juan Pablo Bayona.
Winning the third place in the Sports Adventure category, this beautiful shot of a person skiing in the snowy mountains of Alaska, was shot by Tj Balon .
This mesmerizing shot that looks like a city floating above the clouds, won the first prize in the Travel category. It was taken by Francesco Cattuto in Assisi, Italy.
Todd Kennedy’s shot of camels walking on a beach bagged the second position in Travel. It was captured at the Cable Beach in Australia.
And this shot, that would totally make you want to go for a holiday, was taken at the Playa de Amadores beach in Spain. It was shot by Karolis Janulis.
