Earlier this year, HMD Global revived the iconic Nokia brand by launching a bunch of smartphones under its portfolio at different price points. The Nokia 8 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone that features top-of-the-line hardware, near-stock Android software, a dual-camera setup and more.
Now, rumors about HMD Global’s next flagship smartphone, the Nokia 9, are already abuzz. Keeping with the current trends, the smartphone is likely to come with a bezel-less display, a dual-camera setup and more. Based on the rumors and leaks we have come across so far, here’s everything we know about the upcoming Nokia 9. The smartphone is likely to be officially launched on January 19.

This year, we saw the rise of smartphones featuring displays with 18:9 and higher aspect ratios. While we would expect HMD Global to follow suit, leaks point otherwise. A recently leaked render hints that the Nokia 9 would feature a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge-like dual edge curved display, but skip the 18:9 aspect ratio. We need to wait for the official release for confirmation, though.
With the Nokia 2,3,5,6,7 and 8, HMD Global has tried to offer smartphones with polycarbonate and full metal unibody designs. The Nokia 7 featured front and back curved glass, and the Nokia 9 is also expected to follow the same design language.
On the hardware front, the smartphone is expected to sport a 5.5-inch Quad-HD display and will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. It is likely to be paired with 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. To keep things ticking, the Nokia 9 could be armed with a 3,250mAh battery with support for fast charging.
The smartphone industry is slowly killing the legacy 3.5mm headphone jack. It stated with LeEco and Apple smartphones, followed by the Google Pixel 2-series this year, and now it seems that Nokia has made the 'courageous' decision to drop support for the audio jack, and route the audio via USB Type-C or Bluetooth.
This is another common feature that we have seen in most flagship smartphones. The Nokia 9 is likely to feature IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.
