Vivo launched its V9 smartphone today in India. Priced at Rs 22,990, the Vivo V9 is one of the latest smartphones to follow the notch-design philosophy from Apple iPhone X. It boasts a number of premium features including an edge-to-edge design, selfie-focused AI camera, dual-cameras and more.
Before we look at the key features of the Vivo V9, here’s a quick look at the smartphone’s specifications and features. It comes with a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge screen boasting a 19:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 626 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. There is also a 24-megapixel selfie shooter, dual rear cameras (16-megapixel primary sensor + 5-megapixel secondary sensor), and 3,260mAh battery. On the software front, it runs Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Notch design: The Vivo V9 packs a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. This translates to 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. The rear panel boasts a glossy finish, complemented with rounded edges. But what is important is the presence of the 'notch' or cutout on the display, which adds to the edge-to-edge display experience.
Hardware: Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC, the Vivo V9 is available in only one variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It comes with support for storage expansion up to 256GB via microSD card. Keeping things ticking is a 3,260mAh battery.
Dual-camera: The second USP of the smartphone is that it is equipped with a dual-camera setup. The setup includes a combination of 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor which use f/2.0 aperture, depth sensing, portrait mode, and AR stickers for a richer photography experience.
Security: At a time when Vivo has already introduced phones with in-display fingerprint sensors, the Vivo V9 has been equipped with a physical sensor at the back. This might disappoint those looking at more advanced authentication techniques, but Vivo is offering Face Unlock feature to satiate those needs.
Selfie camera: Inside the notch, rests the 24-megapixel selfie camera. The USP of the front camera is that it comes with AI enhancement. It supports Portrait Mode for Bokeh effect in selfies.
Software: Unlike many of the smartphones out there, the new Vivo V9 runs on the latest Android OS. The smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0.
