Xiaomi Redmi 5 goes on its first sale today, and the budget smartphone is expected to yet again spell success for the Chinese manufacturer. With prices starting from Rs 7,999, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 boasts a tall display and processor as its key highlights. Here’s a look at the top features of the compact smartphone.
Display: In the given price bracket, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 makes the 18:9 narrow bezel display more affordable. It is equipped with a tall 5.7-inch HD+ display. The thinner bezels make it an aesthetically pleasing device.
Processor: The Redmi 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, which is the first chipset in the new 400 series to be built on the more power efficient 14nm process. This enhances the overall performance of the smartphone. You get a choice of 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM, with up to 32GB of expandable storage.
MIUI 9: Even as the Redmi 5 comes with Android Nougat out-of-the-box, it is layered with the latest MIUI 9 custom skin. With the newest Android skin, Xiaomi has added support for better multi-tasking, improved performance, and much more.
1080p video recording: There are no dual cameras on the Redmi 5, however, the regular cameras on the smartphone deliver enhanced features. Both, the 12-megapixel rear camera and the 5-megapixel front camera, are capable of recording 1080p videos, making it easier for vloggers to record high-quality videos without spending on extra equipment. To add to that, the front camera includes a dedicated LED flash for enhanced self-portraits.
Battery: The Redmi 5 packs a 3,300mAh battery. Along with the MIUI 9 and the newer Qualcomm SoC, the smartphone lasts longer on a single charge. Xiaomi claims it is capable of up to 31 days of standby time.
