Xiaomi has been on a roll this year. It has launched smartphones such as the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro, the BlackShark gaming smartphone. The Chinese smartphone giant also introduced the Mi 6X recently, and it is expected to come in India as Mi A2 with stock Android OS. Now, Xiaomi has launched yet another affordable smartphone in China called Redmi S2, and it boasts some interesting features.
The affordable smartphone is also expected to launch in India soon, but as of now, there is no word on a specific launch date. It will be offered in two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage priced at RMB 999 (approximately Rs 10,500), and the top variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at RMB 1,299 (approximately Rs 13,800). Full Screen Display: Keeping up with the latest trend of tall displays, the Redmi S2 comes with a 5.99-inch full screen display that runs at HD+ resolution (1440x720pixels), and an aspect ratio of 18:9.
Dual-rear cameras: The affordable smartphone comes with dual cameras at the back, which includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture, supplemented with a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor. The dual cameras and AI software work together to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos.
Portrait selfie: The Redmi S2 features a 16-megapixel front camera with support for AI portrait mode to add bokeh effects to your selfies. It also comes with AI beauty mode to make your face appear brighter, smoothen the acne and dark circles in your selfies.
Security: Besides letting you click selfies and make video calls, the front camera also enables face unlock feature. It uses AI to identify you, and unlock the smartphone with your face as the password. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back.
Hardware and battery: Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC, paired with 3GB / 4GB RAM, and 32GB / 64GB onboard storage. To keep things ticking, the smartphone houses a 3,080mAh battery.
Dedicated microSD card slot: The Redmi S2 features dual SIM card slots with 4G LTE and VoLTE, with support for HD voice calling. There is also a dedicated microSD card slow, allowing you to use two SIM cards, and also expand the storage at the same time.
Android Oreo with MIUI 9: Lastly, the smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, with MIUI 9 custom interface on top. MIUI 9 also enables iPhone X like gestures, allowing you to disable the on-screen navigation buttons, and this have more screen space.
