The Honor 7A has launched in India with a price tag of Rs 8,999, and is exclusively available via Flipkart. For its price, the new Honor 7A is the company’s most affordable dual-lens smartphone. Considering the range of features at its aggressive price tag, the device is constantly compared with the Xiaomi Redmi 5. Here’s a look at the device that stands out.
The dual rear cameras on the Honor 7A comprise a 13-megapixel primary sensor, and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor that enables depth measurement. This setup will let you click excellent photos with DSLR-like bokeh effects by defocusing the background. If that wasn’t enough, the camera is also backed by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which can detect facial features, environment, lighting, and other aspects of the scene to improve on the output.
For selfies, the Honor 7A comes with an 8-megapixel camera at the front, which boasts an aperture of f/2.2. Thanks to that, the camera can click good photos even in low-light conditions. To help with that, the smartphone is also equipped with a selfie-toning light that helps you click natural looking selfies under all light conditions, at any time of the day.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5, in comparison, comes with a single 12-megapixel rear camera. While there is a built-in bokeh mode, the effect is achieved using software, and as a result thing can go wrong from time-to-time. Besides, it also lacks AI capabilities.
Display and design
The Honor 7A comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ FullView display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and 75.4 percent screen-to-body ratio. Not only does this mean you get a contemporary looking phone with a big display up front, but the phone is also portable enough, and easy to use with one hand. A large display with thin bezels is a boon for those who consume a lot of content on the move. What also make it attractive to the young generation are the sturdy aluminum build, and three color options of black, gold and blue. Here, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 offers a 5.7-inch HD+ display and 18:9 aspect ratio.
This is one area where the Honor 7A easily trumps the Redmi 5. Where Xiaomi’s smartphone is still stuck on a dated Android Nougat, Honor is way ahead. The Honor 7A was launched with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
The OS is wrapped under the company’s EMUI 8.0, which is smart enough to understand user behavior, and make the smartphone more efficient. The UI comes with a range of features including navigation dock, three-finger screenshot, and one-click split to name a few. Overall, Honor has not only helped enhance the experience, but also made day-to-day tasks easier on the smartphone.
While both smartphones come with a fingerprint sensor at the back, the Honor 7A offers much more than its rival. It boasts Face Unlock, which is not only convenient, but also a faster way to unlock the smartphone. All you have to do is simply look at the phone. It also comes handy in situations when you don’t want to pick up the phone or if you’re wearing gloves.
The combination of good design, build quality, and dual cameras at an attractive price makes the Honor 7A an attractive buy.
