Honor 9 Lite, Huawei’s newest baby, goes along in cementing its lead in the value for money, feature rich segment. The phone comes loaded with a whole host of features and a design aesthetic that gives it the look, feel and performance of a much more expensive product.

As usual, Huawei has done all this while still keeping the price under tight control. In this case, you get the 3GB RAM, 32 GB memory model for 10,999 and the 4GB RAM, 64 GB model for 14,999. Without further ado let’s dig into details of another great Huawei product.

The 9 Lite maintains Honor’s reputation for producing excellent lookers. Dominating the front is the display which takes up 5.65 inches of the total 6-inches of space. The phone is 7.5mm thick and at 149 grams is comfortable to hold. The back of the phone has a mirror-like gloss finish. The Honor 9 Lite feels more premium than any other metal unibody phone in its price segment. The build quality is impressive with elegant finishing

The Honor 9 Lite runs on an octa-core Kirin 659 processor and comes with either 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It also includes FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2, single-band Wi-Fi b/g/n, 4G with VoLTE, USB-OTG, an ambient light, sensor, a proximity sensor, an accelerometer and a gyroscope.

Honor 9 Lite packs in a 5.65-inch IPS LCD with 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2160 x 1080 that gives it a high pixel density of 428ppi. The panel has good brightness and color reproduction too. The fingerprint sensor nests comfortably at the back of the phone and is easily reachable for one-handed operations. Apart from securing the phone, the sensor can also be used for gestures such as clicking photos, answering calls, snoozing an alarm and browsing through images.

The big feature of the Honor 9i has to be the dual 13-megapixel plus 2-megapixel shooters front and back. Photos taken during the day or night from either of the cameras look good. Autofocus is quick and details in landscapes are distinct. Colors stay sharp even when zooming in on images. The cameras come with a number of modes wide aperture, portrait, professional, and panorama. There are additional gestures such as the ability to use your palm or your voice to capture a selfie. You can either say ‘cheese’ or have the phone take a shot when you shout at a certain volume level.

Video recording maxes out at 1080p and the quality of recorded video excellent. Portrait mode works well for the front and rear camera.

Despite being only a bit over the Rs 10,000 the phone packs a powerful 3000mAh battery. It is good enough to get you through a day of heavy usage. Of course, Huawei has included a power-saving mode in case you do happen to run low on juice.

To really understand what Honor has managed to do with the 9i Lite it helps to compare it with other phones in the mid-range, like the Moto G5S Plus.

Not only is the Moto G5S Plus much more expensive than the Honor 9 Lite it does not pack anywhere close to its features. For starters, G5S Plus users have to satisfy themselves with a much smaller front screen that comes with the older 16:9 aspect ratio. Not only that, the colors seem faded when viewed in broad daylight, unlike the Honor 9 Lite which maintains a sharp screen in all lighting conditions. Even in terms of screen resolution the Honor 9 Lite scores over the Moto G5S Plus. Of course in the camera department the Honor 9 Lite clearly is in a different league with its twin double shooters up front and back. On its part, the Moto G5S Plus only has an 8MP up front so be ready for selfies that are less than picture perfect, especially low lighting conditions.

The Honor 9 Lite is another great phone that defies the law of economics. How does a phone pack in so much at such a low price? That’s a question that only Huawei can answer. The rest of us can enjoy the wonderful features of the phone without breaking the bank!
