Aircel to reportedly launch 4G LTE service in Chennai by June 2014

Aircel is reportedly gearing up to launch its 4G LTE services in the first half of 2014 in India, competing against Reliance Jio to become the second player after Airtel to offer 4G LTE services in the country. Anupam Vasudev, chief marketing officer, Aircel has told the Economic Times that the company plans to debut with the 4G LTE services in its established markets like Chennai within the next 3-6 months. Airtel launches 4G LTE services in Bengaluru, offers new top-up plans [update]

Airtel today announced it has launched its 4G LTE services in Bengaluru, which becomes the second city in the country after Kolkata to get a 4G network. Apart from the plans already announced in Kolkata, Airtel today announced a new plan that will offer users 30GB of data for Rs 2,999 a month. Users of both Rs 1,999 plan (18GB) and Rs 2,999 will get a cash back offer when they purchase either the multi-mode LTE modem (Rs 7,999) or the indoor CPE with Wi-Fi module (Rs 7,750). More →

Airtel appoints Huawei to supply and manage its 4G LTE network in Karnataka

Bharti Airtel had deployed ZTE to supply and manage its 4G LTE network in Kolkata last month. However, this time around, the carrier has appointed Huawei to set up its 4G network in the state of Karnataka. Under this agreement, Huawei will deliver the LTE solutions comprising of network infrastructure and devices. Huawei has partnered with Bharti Airtel in Sri Lanka and is also the 3G provider in the state of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Airtel 4G LTE tariff plans, devices revealed before launch

Airtel is launching its 4G LTE network in Kolkata tomorrow, but its website has already gone live, revealing tariffs and devices. Airtel is promising download speeds up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 40 Mbps, both of which would be theoretical peak speeds and not exactly what users will get. On the devices front, Airtel will initially offer a multi-mode USB modem and an indoor wireless gateway, which would convert LTE into a Wi-Fi network to be shared among multiple devices.
