The BlackBerry Curve 9220 is a device that RIM hopes will boost sales in developing markets that will stem the downfall of the once great smartphone maker. The Curve 9220 attempts to up the ante from the BlackBerry Curve 8520, a smartphone that has been hugely popular in Indian market. We were the first ones to report exclusively that the BlackBerry Curve 9220 will be launched in April. And today that day has finally arrived as the Canadian vendor has launched the successor to its Curve 8520. The device made it to Flipkart before getting officially announced and confirmed the specs which were listed by us in our earlier post. Apps for RIM’s unannounced BlackBerry Curve 9220 have started appearing on the App World. This comes after the device was spotted on Flipkart’s inventory a few days ago. Coincidentally, RIM is also hosting a press conference later today, which gives us the impression that the device might finally be announced. Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of BlackBerry smartphones, could be looking at yet another round of price cuts, according to Sunil Dutt, managing director, RIM India. This comes less than a month after it slashed prices of its phones by 26 percent. Dutt, who has recently joined RIM after successful stints at Nokia and Samsung, is renowned for his aggressive sales and distribution strategies and this is most likely to be one of them. Online retailer, Flipkart, has jumped the gun by listing the globally unannounced BlackBerry Curve 9220 on its site. Spotted by our eagle-eyed reader, Shubham, the listing confirms all the specs we already knew, including the 2.0 MP camera, FM radio, Wi-Fi and a 2.44-inch QVGA display. Research In Motion (RIM) is likely to launch the BlackBerry Curve 9220 in India in April. The successor to the Curve 8520 will have a 2.0 MP camera, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, Wi-Fi and FM radio.
