Instagram, the popular photo-sharing app, now has more than 50 million users and adds roughly about 5 million users on a weekly basis. The app was recently gobbled up by social networking giant Facebook last month for $1 billion. According to Mashable, Instagram hit 30 million users during the beginning of April and then crossed 40 million users by mid-April. Barely days after launching its Android app that logged a million downloads within the first 24 hours, Instagram has been acquired by Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg announced the acquisition via a status update on Facebook (where else?). Terms of the deal were not disclosed but it is being reported Facebook paid $1 billion.
