Apple on Tuesday reported earnings for the third quarter of fiscal 2011. Shares of Apple Tuesday were trading at near-record levels as investors expected Apple to post its biggest June quarterly earnings ever, and the company didn’t disappoint. Wall Street was predicting revenue of $24.92b, a whopping 58% YoY increase, and Apple’s revenue for the June quarter came in at a mind-blowing $28.57b. Facebook continues to be an overwhelmingly dominant force in the social space and according to Facebook stat tracker Socialbreaker, the massive social network is rapidly approaching 700,000,000 users worldwide. According to new data from IHS iSuppli, Apple’s smartphone market share increased 14.9% during the first quarter of this year — more than any other phone maker. The Cupertino-based company had a 19.2% grip on the smartphone market and shipped 18.6 million units during the first quarter. Ovum: Android to dominate smartphone growth, Windows Phone will beat BlackBerry

In a press release on Friday, research firm Ovum stated that the smartphone market will double by 2016, led by devices running Google’s Android operating system.
