Huge iOS, OS X vulnerability uncovered that can render apps unusable

Android might be targeted by hackers and malware far more often than Apple’s iOS platform, but that doesn’t mean devices like the iPhone and iPad are immune to threats. A post on Russian website Habrahabr.ru draws attention to a fairly serious vulnerability that allows nefarious users to remotely crash apps on iOS 6, or even render them unusable. The vulnerability is seemingly due to a bug in Apple’s CoreText font rendering framework, and OS X Mountain Lion is affected as well. More →

ClearTrip app gets Passbook support

Passbook was one the headlining features of iOS 6, but for people outside the US, it mainly remained an useless feature because no apps were integrated into it. ClearTrip, the travel app, is now integrated with Apple’s Passbook, which makes Apple’s new feature a bit more useful especially for users in India. Google Maps for iOS 6 users are scheduled to the Apple App store later today if a report by AllThingsD is to be believed.  The report says that it will come tonight, but that’s because the report is coming out of the US and they expect it to be available anytime soon, so we can expect the app to be available today. Apple has fired Richard Williamson who oversaw the iOS 6 Maps team in the wake of the iPhone 5 mapping fiasco if a report by Bloomberg is to be believed. According to the report Apple’s Senior VP Eddy Cue who took charge of the Maps and Siri teams last month after the firing of Scott Forstall pushed out Williamson. Apple pays Swiss railways $21 million to settle iOS 6 clock dispute: Report

French wire service AFP is reporting that Apple has settled with Swiss railways over the iOS 6 clock dispute. According to the report Apple paid the Swiss rail operator SBB $21 million in October to continue using the clock on iOS that is used in the companies mobile products – iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad mini and iPad. iOS hacker Ryan Petrich claims to have ported Google Maps on iOS 6. He took to Twitter to announce his feat and said that he was running a port of the Google Maps app from iOS 5.1 on an iPhone 3GS running iOS 6. The release of iOS 6 has recked havoc amongst a number of iDevice users as the update has replaced the long standing Google Maps app with Apple’s new solution which is being called inferior to the product it replaces. Apparently, Google already has an iOS version of its popular maps app ready if a report by 9to5Mac is to believed.
