Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has signified a shift in the fundamental way Microsoft conducts its business in a letter to shareholders. He cities the impeding launches of the Surface RT tablet and Windows 8 and notes that it’s a “significant shift”. As suspected, Microsoft has sent out invites to the press for a October 25 Windows 8 launch event in New York. Previously, the company had confirmed that the public release of Windows 8 will happen on October 26. Apart from this, the company also confirmed that the Windows RT powered variant of the Surface tablet will launch simultaneously with the release of Windows 8. (more…)Google+

After saying that Microsoft should ‘think twice’ before launching its own Surface tablet for Windows 8, Acer Chairman JT Wang has elaborated on the negative impacts of Windows 8. When Microsoft showcased its Surface tablets last month, the company made a big deal of the unique Vapor-Mag casing of the tablets. Microsoft fired the shots earlier this week with its Surface tablet announcement that not only took most of the press by surprise but even most of Microsoft’s OEM partners. It turns out that Microsoft kept the Surface so close to its chest that it did not share any details with its PC OEM partners till as late as last Friday, barely three days before the global announcement. Microsoft has just unveiled its own Windows 8 tablet, which it is calling Surface. It has a 10.6-inch display, weighs 576 grams and has a Magnesium coated casing.
