Samsung Galaxy S5: A combination of lack of innovation and iPhone fear

Samsung decided to make an announcement of the Galaxy S5 earlier than it might have liked even though that meant sharing the stage with numerous other handset makers at the MWC 2014 show that took place in Spain in late February. After replacing SMS, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum wants to replace voice calls

I am headed back home after spending 48 sleepless hours at MWC and I find myself sitting across WhatsApp co-founder and CEO, Jan Koum at the only coffee shop open at Terminal 1 of Barcelona's El Prat airport. Koum couldn't believe I wanted to interview him at "f#*%!#g 4:46AM" but nevertheless invited me to the table and spent 30 minutes answering my questions. More →

Samsung gives preference to Google services over its own in the Galaxy S5

Apart from flattening its TouchWiz UI and removing most of the crapware that used to come in most Samsung smartphones that led to unnecessary wastage of internal storage, Samsung has also started giving preference to Google's services over its own similar solutions. One of the things we noticed in the Galaxy S5 is long pressing the home button no longer takes one to S Voice, which was Samsung's own voice search and personal assistant application. Instead, it opens Google's voice search app, like it happens with most Android smartphones.  More →
