RIP Symbian, it’s Nokia Belle now

RIP Symbian, it’s Nokia Belle now

It is the end of an era or more accurately close to the end. Nokia has dropped the Symbian branding from its own smartphone OS and is now calling it Nokia Belle - no more Symbian S60 versions, just Nokia and the version name. This move probably comes after Nokia sold and outsourced Symbian to Accenture, which would mean it does not own the Symbian trademark anymore. Nokia also announced it will release the Belle update for the Nokia N8, E7, E6, X7, C6-01, C7, and Oro starting from February 2012. However, new units of the Nokia N8 that will be shipped from its manufacturing facilities now will come with Belle on them.

Possible Nokia N8 successor’s user manual leaked, meet Nokia 803

Folks at Pocketnow have caught hold of a user manual for an alleged Symbian Belle-powered device which they are claiming to be the Nokia 803. Don't hold your breath, the manual hasn't put light on any tech specs. However its bulky back is pointing at the fact that this device could be the rumored successor to the Nokia N8 with a 12.0MP shooter. While we can just keep guessing about the specs, Unwired View believes that the Nokia 803 will be based on a 1GHz processor, will sport a 3.5-inch WVGA ClearBlack display with Gorilla Glass, NFC functionality and 512MB of RAM. We have a strong hunch that Nokia might showcase it during the Mobile World Congress in February next year. Stay tuned in for more dope on this unannounced Nokia baby. Read

Nokia N8 receives camera update, gets continuous AF & video recording @30fps

Nokia Beta Labs has today released an update for the Nokia N8 smartphone that will improve its camera capabilities. Your Nokia N8 will only undergo this camera update if you have already installed the latest version of Symbian Anna OS which was also released recently. The latest update has got the much anticipated features - video recording @30fps instead of 24fps and inclusion of continuous AF (auto-focus). Other than these major improvements, you'll now be able to access the camera settings directly from the main toolbar and the scene modes would now be faster to access requiring two fewer clicks to change. The update has added a new viewfinder grid, facilitates smoother video recording along with the ability to shoot video close-ups and has also reduced the sound produced by continuous AF. Thanks to a noise filtering system that now that tones down the noise pattern generated by the piezo lens drive because of the audio signals. Hit here to download this update on your Nokia N8 smartphone.

Nokia W7 and W8 said to be Nokia’s first Windows Phones

Nokia W7 and W8 said to be Nokia’s first Windows Phones

According to industry insider Eldar Murtazin, a man whose been known as a Nokia seer of sorts over the years, Nokia will make its Windows Phone debut with two new devices, the W7 and the W8. Reportedly, the W7 is being used inside Nokia as a test device and will hit the market first. Rumor has it the W7 will have a hardware design that’s relatively similar to the Nokia X7 that was announced earlier this week. We’d be pumped about that, given that the X7 sports a 4-inch AMOLED screen and is made of stainless steel and glass. Nokia’s second Windows Phone device could be the W8, which Murtazin says will resemble the Nokia N8 — another device with a top notch industrial design. While we’ve heard that Nokia’s first Windows Phone will land in 2012, the wait should be worth it — Murtazin claims that the Finnish phone maker already has a dozen Windows Phones slated to launch next year.
