Pope uses iPad to send his first Hello World Tweet

Pope Benedict XVI has shared his very first word on Twitter from his account as he had earlier promised. He used an iPad to send the tweet which has already been retweeted thousands of times and it marks the start of a number of accounts in different languages which are all being followed by the Pope from his main account.

The Pope used an iPad but he isn’t against Android either as he used a Sony Tablet S to ignite a holiday lighting last year.

The account is an attempt to appeal to people, mostly the youth who spend a lot of time online and to keep the Catholic Church as accessible as possible. There are accounts of the Vatican on Twitter, Facebook and on YouTube and Pope Benedict XVI has tweeted twice before but today he tweeted for the first time from his very own Twitter account.

The Head of the Catholic Church tweeted himself today but future tweets are expected to be written by aides which will mostly consist of snippets of the Pope’s speeches.

The account will also be used to answer questions towards #askpontifex. There’s still a chance that a posted question may be answered by Benedict himself but don’t expect to be retweeted or followed as the Vatican’s communication advisor said at a press conference recently that “He won’t follow anyone for now. He will be followed.”
