OPPO’s INNO Day has always been a hub for tech enthusiasts because of a variety of pathbreaking innovations on showcase. The INNO Day which was hosted on – Dec 14th and Dec 15th gave the world a sneak peek into what’s going on in OPPO Labs and why it has become the most loved technology brand.

While unveiling a string of innovative technologies including some of the more notable and noteworthy breakthroughs like MariSilicon X, OPPO’s first dedicated 6nm imaging neural processing unit (NPU), and the OPPO Air Glass, and many more, OPPO showed its determination through pathbreaking innovations.

Allowing real-time RAW processing to happen for 4K videos MariSilicon X will significantly improve the camera capabilities for smartphones. With the power to further enhance the color reproduction and HDR quality for both photos and videos, this innovation will definitely create an extraordinary experience for users. OPPO Air Glass on the other hand gives the best of assisted reality and sets a tone for what future wearable technologies will be like. With its unique minimalistic design, the device projects information like weather, navigation, etc. right in front of your eyes. It’s quite practical, easy to use, and accepts instructions through touch and gestures.

The world further rejoiced as OPPO showcased a multitude of technologies across AI, AR, and 5G namely the OPPO CybeReal 2.0, Technology for developing virtual AR experience & smart navigation systems, and Digital Human which is a hyper-realistic virtual character technology that enables the virtual character to have AI capabilities.

These technologies bring forth the brand’s capabilities in AR and VR tech as they make user interaction more realistic and immersive. These showcases give us a new understanding of the future with a fusion of the physical and virtual world coming together to deliver novel experiences.

Alongside the NPU, OPPO also showed its prowess and leadership in developing future-forward imaging systems with its marque retractable camera technology (That allows large sensors with a focal length of 52 mm to fit into thin devices) and next-generation under-screen camera technology (Places the front camera under the smartphone display without compromising on display or camera quality).

The retractable camera prototype that the brand showcased had a large 1/1.56 inch IMX766 sensor fit in an 8.26mm thick phone which is a technological breakthrough in itself. This can significantly improve the portrait experience. These technologies mark the next steps the brand is taking to further enhance its camera innovation legacy.

OPPO has also been forging fruitful partnerships with other brands globally to expedite its technology vision. Its collaboration with Ericsson to bring an array of 5G enabled experiences to audiences is truly remarkable.  The 5G remote reality racing game OPPO showcased at INNO day gives a peek into how OPPO is leveraging its partner to bring newer 5G experiences on board. OPPO has always stood by its commitment to the development of newer strategies for 5G and this application showcases the new dimensions the brand is exploring through these partnerships.

Each of the devices and technologies that OPPO presented in the INNO Day requires separate attention, but here we will talk about our experience with the OPPO Find N, a foldable smartphone that reimagined new dimensions of the smartphone form factor. The device was one of the most anticipated releases by OPPO ever since it introduced the OPPO X 2021 Rollable Concept Handset last year.

OPPO has been exploring the possibilities of new smartphone form factors since 2017, so the Find N was not a complete surprise for the techies. OPPO first created its foldable smartphone design back in 2018 but did not release it in the market. OPPO continued to perfect the foldable design for the next 4 years and brought forward the Find N that delivers on finesse and performance alike.

When I held the OPPO Find N for the first time, it felt strikingly slender for a foldable flagship. It feels premium in hand and offers the right amount of grip. The device feels solid and robust. Much of it is owing to the flexion hinge design. Once you unfold the Find N, the first thing you notice is the changed aspect ratio. Because of its smaller folded form factor, the OPPO Find N has a distinct landscape shape. The landscape mode of the Find N makes it a relatively better device for consuming content and significantly enhances the viewing experience. Overall, the OPPO Find N genuinely feels like a traditional phone that needs unfolding, unlike its competitors that already have a giant screen that unfolds into an unnecessarily bigger display.

OPPO address two vital paint points of foldable smartphones with the Find N – Minimal crease in the display & a more durable and reliable display with UTG + 12-layer Serene Display. If anyone had ever used a foldable screen, they surely have noticed the annoying crease in the middle of the screen. Given my brief involvement with the OPPO Find N, I can say that there is almost no crease, and it is because of the Flexion Hinge. The Flexion Hinge mechanism is made up of more than 100 components with extreme precision of up to 0.01 mm. It ensures each component is perfectly adjoined together, resulting in a hinge that moves as smoothly as the joints in the human body. The UTG display of the Find N rests on the Flexion Hinge in a water-drop design, which minimalizes the crease by 80%.

OPPO Find N also houses the custom 12-layer Serene Display that offers protection and durability. The Flexion UTG (ultra-thin glass) is only 0.03 mm thick, compared to 0.6 mm for regular smartphone glass. It is very flexible and also provides stronger durability compared to some of the current foldable devices. The unfolded display offers a 120Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of up to 1000 nits which provides an optimal display experience.

The Find N gives users the flexibility to adapt the device to a wide range of usage scenarios as the device can also stand at any angle between 50-120 degrees. They call it the FlexForm Mode. You can watch a movie, take video calls, conduct online classes and so much more using this mode.

The OPPO Find N is a remarkable foldable device with a stunning design that stands out from the rest. It redefines dimensions with its aspect ratio and smaller form factor. Besides, OPPO’s efforts in making the foldable smartphone go from novelty to necessity reflect on the brand’s ethos of truly delivering a remarkable experience to users.

Having personally experienced OPPO’s first foldable flagship and looking at some of the other technologies that the brand showcased, it is quite evident that OPPO is at the pinnacle of its innovation game. With its expertise in R&D, future-forward thinking, and building on years of consumer experience, the brand is already working on crafting an integrated tech ecosystem.

OPPO INNO Day has always presented a fine balance of future-forward technologies that deliver an enhanced user experience. This is one of the key reasons why the world appreciates the events for its gaming-changing technological breakthroughs. I for one always follow the event keenly as it gives me an insight into tech trends of the future. With OPPO’s immaculate presentation of the event to heartwarming tech on display, the INNO day is a true testament to OPPO’s dedication and innovative spirit.
