Launched just three days apart, the Oppo F7 and Vivo V9 are currently the talk of the town. Priced at Rs 21,990 and Rs 22,990 respectively, the two phones are almost identical to look at, from the size and shape, to the screen. However, if you look closely, you’ll see that these two phones have some differences that help tell them apart. But you do have to look very closely; most people might be completely confused in this case.
Before we go into the differences, let’s first talk about the similarities. The screens on the two smartphones are pretty much the same, although with the Oppo F7 sporting a 6.23-inch full-HD+ 19:9 IPS LCD screen, and the Vivo V9 featuring a slightly larger 6.3-inch screen with the same specifications and type. The base variant of the Oppo has the same RAM and storage specifications as the Vivo, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, although the Oppo F7 also comes in a 6GB RAM / 128GB storage variant priced at Rs 26,990. Both phones run on Android Oreo 8.1, although the custom UIs (FunTouch for Vivo and Color OS for Oppo) are different in appearance and layout.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: The Screen and front
The screen on the Vivo V9 is just a bit bigger than that of the Oppo F7. However, the two phones are indistinguishable in size, and the larger screen does not increase the phone size visibly. As such, the thin strip of non-screen space below the screen of the Vivo V9 is slightly narrower than that of the Oppo F7.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: The Back
The biggest difference here is of course the colors – the Oppo F7 is available in red, silver and diamond black color options, while the Vivo V9 comes in pearl black and gold. The Vivo also has a unibody design that curves along the entire device, while the Oppo has a two-piece rear that is flat at the back.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: Rear camera and fingerprint sensor
While the Vivo V9 features a dual-camera setup at the rear, the Oppo F7 goes with a traditional single camera setup. Additionally, the fingerprint sensor on the Vivo is evenly shaped as a square with curved corners, while the Oppo has a pill-shaped fingerprint sensor. The logos right below the fingerprint sensors on both phones naturally give away the device as well.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: SIM trays
This is one department where the two phones are very different. The SIM tray on the Vivo is on the left, while the buttons are on the right. The SIM tray on the Oppo is on the right, while the volume buttons are on the left. However, both smartphones have non-hybrid SIM trays, which means that you can have two SIM cards as well as a micro-SD card inserted into the phone simultaneously.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: The Notch
While the notches on the two devices look similar, the layout is a bit different in the two cases. The Vivo V9 has the proximity sensor, earpiece and 24-megapixel front camera (in that order), the Oppo F7 has the 25-megapixel front camera, earpiece and proximity sensor (in that order). The notches are, however, practically the same size, with smaller-than-usual earpieces to make up for the lack of space.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: The bottom and sides
The two devices will look quite different if you look at them from the bottom or sides. While the Vivo V9 has the 3.5mm jack, micro-USB port and speaker grille (in that order, when seen with the phone face up), the Oppo F7 interchanges the positions of the 3.5mm jack and speaker grille. Additionally, the unibody design on the Vivo looks cleaner, while the Oppo’s two-piece construction tends to look dated in comparison.
WATCH: Oppo F7 Vs Vivo V9
On the whole, we’re inclined to say that the Vivo V9 is the better-looking device of the two. This is thanks to a slightly better screen-to-body ratio, better rear design and more conveniently positioned SIM tray. In Oppo’s favor though, are better color variants. The red, silver and diamond black color options help the Oppo F7 stand out, as compared to the comparitively bland colors on the Vivo V9.
However, this comparison only takes into consideration the design of the two phones. When it comes to specifications, software and camera capabilities, the Oppo F7 and Vivo V9 are very different. If you’re planning to pick up one of these smartphones, take a look at our comparison above as well, to get a better idea of which of the two smartphones suit you best.
