The first day of E3 2018 was a busy one as many publishers showcased their new wares, and key among them was Square Enix and Ubisoft. Though almost everyone thought that the Square Enix show was a bit tame, Ubisoft put things in the fifth gear with one of the biggest games coming this year.
The Japanese dev Square Enix had no more than a couple of game announcements and some extended looks of games we had already seen like Just Cause 4 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Ubisoft on the other hand showed some crazy pirate action in the Skull and Bones gameplay trailer, and then of course the much awaited Assassin’s Creed Odyssey gameplay. So without further ado let’s see what we came across at these two events. Let’s begin with Square Enix.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of Tomb Raider which is the third installment in the reboot of the series, was portrayed by the studio as a stealth-based game. There are some great new stealth new techniques that players can try out, like the berserk arrow that turns the enemy against its own and using mud to blend into the environment. According to the developer this game will have more tombs than before, and will have “biggest hubs ever created in a Tomb Raider game.”
The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit
Here’s another one we had already seen previously at the Microsoft Xbox Event. This game is set in the Life is Strange universe, and will be bridging the gap between the first game and the second. The game follows a young boy whose imagination comes to life. It’s coming out as a free to play game on June 26.
This game is from the makers of Bayonetta, Vanquish and Nier: Automata, and the trailer suggests that it will be an action RPG game. This is set to release in 2019.
Just Cause 4
Just Cause 4 is taking us to a fictional Latin American country of Salice, and this time rough weather is going to be one of the biggest bosses in the game. According to the trailer the game will feature some extreme weather like sandstorms, blizzards and tornadoes. The grappling hook has got an upgrade and is now customizable. This one is coming out on December 4, and is up for pre-order now.
The Quiet Man
This game has an interesting premise, according to the trailer this game is about a deaf protagonist, and it appears to be a brawler game. The trailer says that more is to come in August. There were some other little tidbits shared at this event but nothing major.
And now let’s move on to the Ubisoft event.
Just Dance 2019
Ubisoft kicked things off with a dance promoting Just Dance 2019 where a big dancing panda kicked things off. Just Dance 2019 is set to come out in October, and will be launching on Nintendo Wii as well.
Beyond Good & Evil 2
We got another extensive look at Beyond Good & Evil 2, though this was just a cinematic trailer, and didn’t offer anything at all in terms of how the gameplay would be. Jade from the first game made an appearance at the end of the trailer, and it could very well turn out that she is the villain. But after this Ubisoft shared some pre-alpha gameplay which was pretty neat.
Anyone game for another round of Trails with some more imaginative obstacles and tracks. Because Ubisoft seems we are ready for some more and the new installment has just the zing. This game will see a closed beta this year and the full release is scheduled for February 2019 on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch.
The Division 2
The Division 2 plot is set after seven months after the initial outbreak of the virus and US is facing massive civil war. The game is set to get eight player raids. After the release the game will get episodic DLCs that will be free to download and will expand different areas in the game. The game is set to come out on March 15, 2019.
Donkey Kong Adventure
Donkey Kong Adventure is getting a new DLC that is coming out on June 26.
Skull & Bones
Now this one really made the crowd happy, and we got to see some intense pirate naval action. There was a cinematic trailer followed by some gameplay, and there we some of the many customizations available for the game and then some intense action on the sea. This one is releasing in 2019.
This is a very creepy VR game and Elijah Wood walked out to the stage to talk about his narrative-focused VR project that his production house is collaborating with Ubisoft Montreal to make. This is made for VR but can be played on a traditional screen as well. This is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Rift, Vive, and PSVR this fall.
Starlink: Battle For Atlas
Starlink: Battle For Atlas is all set to get famous pilot Fox McCloud in a crossover between the Ubisoft and Nintendo universe. Starlink is out on October 16 for Xbox One, PS4, and Switch.
Nothing much, just that For Honor is all set to get a new expansion called Marching Fire as well as a new mode. The new mode is called Breach where teams of four will clash against each other. The new expansion is bringing a new faction, four new fighters, and some unrevealed single-player content. Marching Fire update will be available on October 16.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
And finally, the crown jewel of Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey trailer, and some sweet gameplay was revealed. Contrary to what we first thought, the game takes place hundreds of years before Origins, and this time the players get to choose between a male character called Alexios or a female one called Kassandra. Player will be able to choose the dialogues, and this will affect the storyline a lot. The action in Odyssey looks engaging, and it will be out this October 5 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
