Fortnite‘s popularity among gamers is huge right now, especially after the hype around Android release. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced the Fortnite beta for Android during the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2018 event and had clearly mentioned that the game will initially be exclusive to select Samsung devices, and it will be later made available to other Android devices in “the next few days”.

Now with the unexpected controversy around Fortnite‘s Android release being exclusive to Epic Games website, Google is likely to get hurt the most, and that is of least $50 million loss in platform fee revenue. According to app analytics firm Sensor Tower, Google will lose out on $50 million in 2018 because of Fortnite skipping the Play Store.

The Fortnite for Android is set to bypass the Google Play Store because of exclusive hosting of the APK directly on its Epic Games website. A couple of days back, Google had also acknowledged that the ‘Fortnite Battle Royal by Epic Games Inc is not available on Google Play.’

To put this in perspective, Sensor Tower notes that Apple has already made more than $54 million profit with Fortnite on iOS. Overall, Fortnite has grossed more than $180 million on iOS since March. The game has been available exclusively on iOS as an invite-only beta since March 15, which was later expanded to everyone at App Store.

For Android, as of now the list of devices for exclusive Fortnite Beta includes Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8, S8+, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy S7 Edge. For rest of the compatible Android smartphones (full list available on Epic Games website), it can be downloaded via APK, but first you’ll need to Sign up for the waiting list.
