God of War has always been a golden egg goose for Sony ever since the first edition came out in 2005. Kratos has been hailed as one of the most popular protagonists of any game series and the series itself has seen more success than most on the PlayStation. Hence, when a new game was released this year, with a whole new take on how Kratos’ story continues, it was bound to create some noise in the gaming world.
And create noise, it did, the new God of War that came out a month ago has been critiqued as possibly the best game in the series with rave reviews. And so, it does not come as a surprise when Sony announces that the game has sold 5 million copies by the end of the first month.
To show some context, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End from Sony had managed to sell 2.7 million copies in the first week, a number that God of War beat in three days, by selling 3.1 million copies.
Then again, having a Metascore of 94 and an average user rating of 9, kind of makes it certain that the game would sell as such.
God of War this time around took a different route in terms of gameplay with the third person RPG perspective which is new to the series. As for the setting, the game has now moved on from Kratos taking on the Greek pantheon of Gods to the Norse ones. God of War is now available exclusively on PlayStation for Rs 3,899.
