The Nintendo Switch has become an incredibly popular choice of console since it launched a year ago. And as is the case with all coveted devices, third-party manufacturers come up with accessories that look cooler and tend to offer additional quirks. Same is the case with the Switch. A number of third-party manufacturers are offering docks that can used to connect the device to television screens.

These third-party docks look slimmer, are more attractive, and cost lesser than the original dock from Nintendo. Nintendo’s own Switch dock costs $70 (Rs 4,550 approximately). And though the third-party docks may seem like an attractive prospect, the results from what is being reported is far less than satisfying.

Users that bought the third-party docks, especially from the company called Nyko, have a lot of issues to report. The most frequent complaint seems to be that using the dock somehow resulted in the Switch devices to stop charging, while other devices get stuck in a boot loop, and some saying that their device simply got bricked. There are devices from other manufacturers that seem to have better reviews, but the scores of faulty ones outnumber those. This could grossly be assessed that saving those bucks may seem attractive, but is not a pragmatic decision.

Nintendo told Kotaku addressing the use of third party accessories that, “Unlicensed products and accessories do not undergo Nintendo’s testing and evaluation process. They might not work at all with our game systems, and they could have compatibility problems with certain games, the Nintendo Switch system itself, and other licensed accessories and peripherals.” For the record Nintendo has kept out modders from accessing the core of the console for security reasons.
