OG Dota which is a European Dota 2 squad that was formed just three months ago has won the biggest eSports as well as one of the biggest sporting events in the world, The International 2018. The International 2018 which had amassed a prize pool of over $25 million paid out a winning amount of over $11 million to the winner, OG.

People are terming this win by OG a Cinderella story where a team of almost strangers performed beyond anyone’s expectations. The International this time took place in Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, instead of Key Arena. OG entered the finals of the TI8 in the upper bracket and defeated every opponent that they faced to reach the Grand Finals. On their way to the finals, they did meet PSG.LGD the other finalists who they defeated and sent to the lower bracket.

PSG.LGD on their side of things were also in the upper bracket but got knocked to the lower bracket by OG. And they clawed their way to the grand finals defeating the North American team Evil Geniuses in the lower bracket finals to set up what looked like a revenge match in the Grand Finals.

The finals turned out to a spectacular affair where the European team OG and their Chinese rivals PSG.LGD battled tooth and nail to the finish. After TI3 this became only the second Grand Finals of TI to have full five games to decide the winner.

The OG team, led by captain Johan ‘N0tail’ Sundstein and its players Jesse ‘JerAx’ Vainikka, Sébastien ‘Cebs’ Debs, Topias ‘Topson’ Taavitsainen and Anathan ‘ana’ Pham took an early first game. But the PSG.LGD squad led by captain Xu ‘fy’ Linsen, and players Yap ‘xNova’ Jian Wei, Yang ‘Chalice’ Shenyi, Lu ‘Somnus丶M’ Yao and Wang ‘Ame’ Chunyu took both the second and third games from OG. The fourth game was where the competition was at its best as everybody witnessed comebacks by both teams, until OG finally took it. And the final game was also quit evenly poised until OG overpowered PSG.LGD to go for the jugular.
