Popular mobile game PUBG Mobile (PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds) has been creating waves worldwide, with India in particular seeing a huge surge in popularity. The mobile game, developed by Tencent Games, is available on both Android and iOS, and is optimized for smartphones in all price categories. The game publisher recently announced the PUBG Mobile Campus Championship in association with smartphone maker Oppo.
The tournament kicked off on September 26 across the country, with entry open to users from various colleges across the country. It’s one of many e-sports tournaments organized for PUBG Mobile, with the focus on campus students for this particular tournament. The tournament is scheduled to come to an end with the final taking place on October 21 at KTPO Center (Karnataka Trade Promotion Organization) in Bangalore.
The tournament received a total of 2,50,000 registrations from over 1,000 colleges and 30 cities across India. Of this, 10,000 teams of four participated in the tournament, and the finals will feature 20 teams fighting it out for the grand prize in Bangalore on October 21. There is a total prize pool of Rs 50,00,000, along with other contests and giveaways featuring merchandise as well as Oppo F9 Pro smartphones. The finals will be live-streamed on PUBG Mobile’s YouTube and Facebook handles.

The tournament is one of many around the world based around the game. Some of the global tournaments have seen higher prize pools, with the e-sports concept gaining ground after debuting at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia earlier this year. PUBG Mobile recently crossed 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store, signifying its immense popularity on the Android platform.
