PUBG Mobile (PlayerUnknown’s Battle Grounds Mobile), the popular battle royale game for smartphones, has achieved a new landmark in terms of users on the game. Over three million players in the United States are now playing the game, alongside a total of over 100 million global downloads. Interestingly, PUBG Mobile is more popular on Android smartphones than iOS devices in the United States.

According to data by analytics platform App Ape reported on by Android Headlines, PUBG Mobile now has 3.1 million players in the United States, with 1.7 million of those players on the Android platform. The game has generally been more popular on Android globally, and owes a lot of its global success to its popularity in countries such as India and China.

Its success on Android also has to do with the fact that its main competitor Fortnite Mobile was an iOS-exclusive till last month, and still isn’t widely available on the platform because it isn’t listed on the Google Play Store. The game has gained popularity because it offers a unique multi-player experience, where users play with not only other players from around the world, but also have the ability to join in games with friends and known contacts.

PUBG Mobile recently tied up with the film Mission Impossible: Fallout for in-game publicity material, which likely helped it gain a strong following in the United States. Additionally, the data suggests that about half of the players in the US are playing the game at least once a month, with 14 percent of users launching the app daily. For the time being though, PUBG Mobile’s popularity is driven by its strong user base in Asia.
