Xbox was the first console to get voice control when Microsoft introduced it in Kinect, and implemented Cortana. But this list is all set to get better with the inclusion of other voice controlled artificial intelligence assistants. And the two new voice assistants that will be joining this list are Amazon’s Alexa, and Google Assistant.

Microsoft, in its blog, has announced that Xbox One will be getting support for both Google Assistant and Alexa soon. And this is a progressive move from Microsoft that is in line with the present policy of the most big companies. With the current trend that is heavily leaning on the marketing of smart speakers, so much so that millions of homes now have them. Currently users can use Cortana on their Xbox by speaking into the mic of the headphones.

This could mean that Xbox users will not be able to use both assistants to control the console. And this also brings up new avenues for Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa to venture into the gaming space. None of these assistants have been associated to anything to do with gaming yet.

Albert Penello who was with the Microsoft Xbox team up until recently, has joined the Amazon’s Alexa team, and justified it by saying that the move was to “help figure out how to grow Alexa / Echo presence in gaming.”

Microsoft has also been working with Amazon to integrate Alexa in Windows 10, and we could see something to that effect soon. As for the integration of Google Assistant and Alexa, we should hear about this at E3 2018.
