Over the past one-year, manufacturers like Asus, Xiaomi, Meizu, Nubia and Razer have been taking increasing interest in gaming smartphone. Earlier this year in April, Xiaomi launched the Black Shark smartphone in India, and now, six months later, the company has launched its successor, the Black Shark Helo. It is one of the first smartphones to come with 10GB of RAM among other notable upgrades.
The smartphone comes with front stereo speakers for immersive audio experience, and RGB Black Shark logo at the back and LED illuminated side strips. Xiaomi has also equipped the smartphone with liquid cooling system that leverages double heat pipes to avoid overheating even with extensive gaming. Buyers going for 6GB and 8GB RAM variants will get a left side controller dock called Black Shark Biplane Handle, whereas the 10GB RAM model will come with both side handles.
To offer smooth gaming experience, Xiaomi has also added Gamer Studio app that lets you tweak the display, CPU and network profile. You can also create different gaming profiles for each game, and these profiles can also be shared with other users using the ‘Shark Code.’
Xiaomi Black Shark Helo pricing and availability
The Black Shark Helo will be offered in three storage variants – 6GB of RAM with 128GB storage priced at RMB 3,199, which is approximately Rs 34,100. The other variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage is priced at RMB 3,499 which roughly translates to Rs 37,000. Lastly, there is a premium model with 10GB of RAM and 256GB onboard storage, which is priced at RMB 4,199, which is approximately Rs 44,500. The smartphone is available on pre-order and will go on sale in China starting October 30. However, there is no word on whether or not the smartphone will be launched in India.

Xiaomi Black Shark Helo specifications and features
The smartphone comes with a 6.01-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, and pixel density of 402ppi. The screen comes with a refresh rate of 60Hz, and if you are looking for an even smoother experience, the Asus ROG Phone offers 90Hz screen refresh rate. The Razer Phone 2, on the other hand, comes with an LCD panel with 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the Black Shark Helo is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with an octa-core CPU, and Adreno 630 GPU. As mentioned above, there are three variants with 6GB / 8GB and 10GB RAM options, with 128GB and 256GB storage options to choose from.
In the photography department, the Black Shark Helo comes with dual cameras at the back – one is a 12-megapixel primary sensor and other is the 20-megapixel secondary sensor. Up front is a 20-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling.
To keep things ticking the smartphone comes with a 4,000mAh battery and support for Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. There is no mention about the software version on the website, but we assume it should at least be Android 8.1 Oreo. Connectivity options include dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
