Google Pixel 3 XL software ported to run on OnePlus 6: Here is how to get started

Google Pixel 3 XL is the latest flagship smartphone that was recently launched by smartphone giant Google. Moving to the hardware of the device, some may say that the Pixel 3 lineup with its 4GB RAM has not gone all in when it comes to the hardware.

Considering that we live in a world with smartphones sporting up to of 10GB RAM, one would long for a beefed up smartphone with Pixel software. Looking at the fact that Pixel software is, at the end just software and any experienced Android developer can port it on other devices. Thinking along the similar lines, it looks like an Android developer took the Pixel 3 XL software and ported it to run on OnePlus 6, the current flagship smartphone from OnePlus that has the latest Qualcomm SoC and sports up to 8GB RAM.

According to a report by XDA, senior member ProtoDeVNan0 has just released a custom ROM for OnePlus 6 that is a direct port of the stock Android firmware from Google Pixel 3 XL. The report noted that the ROM is not completely stable and some of the things are not working at the time of writing. The working portions of the ROM and device include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sound, calls, OxygenOS camera, flashlight, fingerprint scanner, Always On Display, dual-SIM connectivity, GPS, notification light, USB Type-C connectivity, headphones, microphone, VoLTE, and SafetyNet on the side.

The things that don’t work include system sounds, stock Google Camera, DRM, autorotation, and brightness is always set on 100 percent. The developer stated that he is actively working on fixing the things that are not working in the port. Looking at the combination of top of the line hardware and top of the line software, we are sure that interested users may want to install it on their devices. As prerequisites before attempting to do anything, ensure that the bootloader of your device is unlocked and you have installed a custom bootloader like TWRP. If you need any help in unlocking the bootloader of your OnePlus 6 then Google is the friend that will help you.

Before you do anything, make sure that you take a backup of all the essential data from your device. Installing Google Pixel 3 XL firmware port on OnePlus 6

Step 1

Download the Pixel 3 XL Port and extract the port file. You will find all the instructions, links to download all the essential files from here bit.ly/2EM4Kaj.

Step 2

Flash the file with the command: fastboot -w flash system_b Pixel 3XL Port for OnePlus6.img
This step will remove all the data from your OnePlus 6.

Step 3

Disable Vbmeta with the command: fastboot –disable-verity –disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

Step 4

Boot into TWRP and Mount Vendor.

Step 5

Flash OP6_2_P3XL.zip and Magisk if you want root access and reboot the device. If you don’t see the initial SetupWizard after booting then don’t worry as it is normal.

Step 6

transfer the GMSCore and OnePlus Camera app to your device and install both the apps. Once that is done, reboot the device and then log in your Google Account to set up everything.
