How to link Aadhaar with your mobile number for re-verification using IVR and OTP

Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone customers can now call a number to re-verify and link Aadhaar with their phone number.

The Aadhaar number has become an important document that serves as an identity card and address proof. The government has also made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with PAN, bank accounts, EPF accounts and more. As a part of re-verification of existing mobile subscribers, you will now need to link your mobile number to Aadhaar before February 6, 2018. The facility is now live with Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular.

Until now, the process was a tedious one as you had to visit the telecom operator’s store for biometric authentication. Now, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has simplified the process which does away with the need of going to the customer care center for re-verification. Starting January 1, 2018, you can now call on UIDAI’s toll-free number, and follow the instructions to link your Aadhaar with mobile number from the comforts of your home. Here’s how it works.

Step One

Dial 14546 from your mobile number, and wait for the IVR.

Step Two

Once connected, follow the voice-based instructions. If you are an Indian national press 1, and if you are a foreign national, press 2.

Step Three

You now need to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. The IVR will repeat the number you entered. If it is correct press 1 to confirm, or you can press 2 to enter other number.

Step Four

A 6-digit OTP will now be sent on your smartphone. You will hear a voice message asking for your permission to share your name, address, photo and date of birth details from Aadhaar with your telecom operator. If you agree, enter the 6-digit OTP that you received in the form of an SMS.

That’s it. The details will be verified in 48 hours, and if they match, your Aadhaar number will be linked with mobile number. Meanwhile, for other tutorials, you can also visit our dedicated how to section.
