Every year, Apple unveils the latest iOS and macOS updates in June, at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). Soon after unveiling, the update is made available to developers as a part of closed beta, followed by public beta, and then finally rolled out to the general users in September. But this is about major updates, even the incremental updates are first seeded to developers, followed by public beta users, and then to general users. Before you go ahead to register for iOS or macOS beta, there are a few things you need to know. As it is a pre-release version of the operating system, it may have its share of bugs. Apple will continuously work towards finding and fixing them, along with improving speed and responsiveness. Due to this, we would recommend you not to try it out on a device that you use as your daily driver. Also, before you go ahead to install the beta software, we would advise you to take complete backup of your data.
How to enrol for iOS public beta
If you own an iPhone, iPod touch or an iPad and want to enrol for iOS public beta, head over to beta.apple.com and click on sign up button to register for the program.
Use your Apple ID to register, read the terms and conditions, and then click on Accept.
Next, visit the enrol your device page link, on the top right.
Once enrolled, open Safari browser on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, and head over to beta.apple.com/profile. You will be asked to sign in using your Apple ID.
Once you sign in using the Apple ID, tap on download profile link that you ll see on the browser, and install it.
Once the profile is installed, restart your device, and head over to Settings > General > Software Update. If the latest beta software is available, you will be able to download and install it.
How to opt out of iOS beta program
If you no longer wish to get iOS beta updates, open Settings, the tap on General and scroll down until you see Profile and then tap on it.
Select the iOS 11 Public Beta Profile, and tap on Remove Profile.
It will ask you to enter passcode and confirm removal of the profile. Do that and restart your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. That s it, you will no longer get beta updates from Apple.
How to enrol for macOS public beta
To be able to download macOS public beta builds, you ll first have to enrol for public beta by visiting beta.apple.com.
If you have already signed up, login with your Apple ID credentials. In case you have already registered, you can go ahead and sign in.
You will then be asked to accept the terms and conditions. Once that is done, and then download the MacOS Public Beta Access Utility tool and install it.
Restart your Mac and head over to the Mac App Store. If the latest beta is available, you will see an option to download and install it.
How to opt out of macOS beta program
If you don t want to receive beta updates of iOS anymore, head over to System Preferences, click on App Store, and then click on Change where you will find this text next to it Your computer is set to receive beta software updates.”
After clicking on Change, you will see two options click on Do Not Show Beta Software Updates, and click on Done. That s it, you will no longer get beta updates of macOS.
