Reliance Jio launched its telecom services with affordable internet packs and free unlimited local and national outgoing calls. The newest entrant in the telecom sector grabbed the headlines for its offering, which also included suite of apps to stream live TV, movies, music and more. Earlier, these streaming apps were only available on mobile and tablets. However, the company has now opened up the service for web as well.
First reported by TelecomTalk, the web version of both JioTV and JioCinema will let you watch your favorite TV shows and movies on your laptop or desktop PCs as well. In case of mobile apps, you need to be on the Reliance Jio network to be able to access these services. In case you’re connected to internet offered by other service providers, you won’t be able access these apps. However, that is not the same with the web version.
How to access JioTV and JioCinema on the web
To access JioTV, go to jiotv.com on your web browser. Similarly, for JioCinema, simply head to jiocinema.com. Use your Jio ID and the OTP that you receive on your registered number.
After successful login, you will be able to browse through the movies, music videos, clips, and TV channels that are on offer. You can access these services even while you are connected from Airtel, Vodafone, Tata, MTNL or your local cable operator to watch live TV and movies at ease.
We tried it and the interface is pretty good, similar to Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video on the web. You can even switch to full-screen view. What struck us was the lack of option to manually switch resolution. By default, the video streams in the best quality, depending on your internet connection.
JioCinema gives you ad-free access to more than 1 lakh hours of movies, TV shows, music videos and trailers in languages such as Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bhojpuri and more. There is also dubbed content that you can watch.
JioTV, on the other hand, gives you an access to Live TV with more than 450 channels. It also allows you to watch TV shows from past seven days, along with TV guide. The list of channels are spread across 10 genres and 15 languages.
