Amazon has launched 10.or D, the first smartphone announced as part of ‘Crafted for Amazon’ program. The e-commerce giant says the smartphone is designed considering the consumer feedback on its marketplace and offers features that smartphone buyers consider important across different price point. The 10.or D is the third smartphone from Tenor, which already sells 10.or E and 10.G on Amazon India. At a starting price of Rs 4,999, the 10.or D is going against Redmi 5A, which is billed as Desh Ka Smartphone by the Chinese smartphone maker. In order to get better of Redmi 5A, the 10.or D offers features such as fingerprint sensor and a larger battery, which isn’t standard feature for a budget smartphone. Here is how the two smartphones compare in terms of price, features and specifications. Also Read - Best smartphones for photography under Rs 20,000 to gift for Father's Day
Pricing and availability
The 10.or D starts at Rs 4,999 and will be available starting January 5 exclusively from Amazon India. The variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage is priced at Rs 4,999 while the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant is priced at Rs 5,999. It will be available in black and gold color options when it goes on sale.
The front of the Redmi 5A is home to a 5-inch HD display, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, proximity sensor and microphone. The back houses a 13-megapixel main camera along with a LED flash, Mi logo and speaker setup. The device misses out on fingerprint sensor, which Amazon claims is one of the requested feature by its customers.
The Redmi 5A available in gold, rose gold and dark grey color options seems more premium than 10.or D.
Both the devices use Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 425 mobile platform, which is an entry-level chipset for budget smartphones. The smartphones come with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, but can also be purchased with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The Redmi 5A runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat while 10.or D runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat. It isn’t clear whether these smartphones will get a newer version of Android.
The Snapdragon 425 features four low-power Cortex A53 cores with support for HD playback at 60 frames per second. The processor also includes Adreno 308 GPU for improved visual and graphics performance. The Snapdragon 425 SoC includes Hexagon DSP, which improves imaging capabilities of a budget device.
This is another area where the 10.or D and Redmi 5A have similar capabilities. Both the smartphones feature a 13-megapixel primary camera, but the 10.or D has a wider f/2.0 aperture as opposed f/2.2 aperture lens used by Redmi 5A. The wider aperture should mean better sensitivity to light, but none of them will be exceptional in low-light conditions.
The rear camera on 10.or D is supported by a single LED flash and includes options like HDR, panorama mode and facial recognition. The Redmi 5A, on the other hand, also includes a single LED flash, low light enhancement, HDR, panorama and burst mode.
The 10.or D sports a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture and beautify filter, countdown timer and face detection. The Redmi 5A also gets a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture, selfie countdown and face recognition features.
Battery and Connectivity
The 10.or D offers fingerprint sensor and is cheaper than the Redmi 5A but it has another thing going for it: battery life. The 10.or D packs a 3,500mAh battery which is bigger than the 3,000mAh battery found on Redmi 5A. With limited hardware resources to power, the smartphone should last few hours longer than Redmi 5A.
They offer connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE and dual-SIM support. Xiaomi‘s biggest strength is that it is a familiar brand in comparison with 10.or.
