16 iOS apps with dark mode that take advantage of Apple iPhone X's OLED panel

Apple iPhone X is the first iPhone to get an OLED display and complete redesign.

Apple iPhone X is arguably the best iPhone one can buy right now. It has an edge-to-edge display, 3D facial recognition called Face ID, and shows the future of iOS’ user interface. Apart from these features, the iPhone X is also the first to feature an OLED display, which helps with higher contrast and deeper black colors. In order to take advantage of that display and its ability to reproduce deeper blacks, Apple has created a list of 16 iOS apps that take advantage of the “pure black mode”. The effort is part of a redesigned App Store, which was announced in September last year alongside iOS 11. According to Sensor Tower, app downloads have soared since Apple redesigned the App Store. Most iOS users report that the redesigned App Store has made it easier to discover apps, which in effect, has led to increased downloads of iOS applications. Apple is not the first to implement dark theme on iOS. Android smartphone makers have enabled the feature on their mobile devices for sometime now. The darker theme is generally softer on the eyes, and makes for great viewing especially at night. If you own an iPhone X then you ought to test the dark mode on 16 of these Apple recommended applications.

Instapaper is one of the first apps that comes to mind when you want to save something to read later. The free app is one of the easiest ways to read a story offline, anytime, anywhere, and on the go. The app, while having a white background, also allows users to choose between dark background or something more easier like Sepia.

Reeder 3

The next app on the list is Reeder 3, a paid app that also serves as a great way to get updated on all your RSS feeds. It supports Feedbin, Feedly, Feed Wrangler, and Fever. Like Instapaper, Reeder 3 also comes with dark theme that takes full advantage of iPhone X’s OLED display. The app is priced at Rs 399, and is available for iPhone and iPad.

Speedtest app by Ookla does not need any introduction. It is by far the most used application whenever someone plans to test the data speed of their mobile network or a Wi-Fi network. On iPhone X, the Speedtest app also comes with an optional dark mode that makes it glorious to look on the iPhone X. The free app offers basic features, and premium features can be unlocked using in-app payments.
